Thermal Shock Testing
Rapid temperature changes can place significant stress on products and assemblies. As temperatures rise and fall, materials expand and contract at different rates, creating mechanical stresses that may lead to cracking, warping, seal failures, solder joint fatigue, loss of adhesion, electrical failures, and other reliability concerns. DATASYST’s Thermal Shock Testing helps manufacturers identify these potential weaknesses before products are deployed in the field.
Thermal shock testing rapidly transfers products between extreme hot and cold temperatures to evaluate their ability to withstand sudden environmental changes. This testing is commonly used to assess product durability, material compatibility, assembly integrity, and long-term reliability in applications where equipment may experience abrupt temperature transitions.
In two-zone testing, the unit under test is automatically transferred between hot and cold chambers in less than 10 seconds, creating severe thermal stresses. Single-chamber testing can also be performed when specifications require controlled transition rates, commonly set at 2°C to 4°C /minute decrease and 3°C to 10°C/minute increase, between temperature extremes.
DATASYST develops test programs that meet industry, military, automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, and customer-specific requirements. Our team works with customers to create test profiles that accurately represent the thermal conditions their products may encounter throughout transportation, storage, and operational service.
